It is the part of the Char Dham & is most holy amongst all, Badrinath with Yamunotri, Gangotri & Kedarnath form the Chota Char Dham, the important pilgrimages of Hindu Religion.
The temple is one of the 108 temples dedicated to Lord Shiva by Tamil saints known as ‘Divya Desams’. It mentioned in the various Hindu texts and is one of the important temple for Hindus.
It remains covered in snow for six months on an average every year.
Temple remains closed in winter from Vijayadashmi in October/November, and reopens in April/May on Vasant Panchami.

Satopanth Glacier is at the northwest side, and Panpotia Glacier is at the southwest side of the Neelkanth peak.
June to September is the best time to visit Neelkanth peak.

Charan Paduka means ‘Footwear’ in English. It is basically the rock which is believed to be holding the foot prints of Lord Vishnu.
Located at the elevation of 3,380 feet above sea level. Hindu mythology says that Lord Vishnu set his foot on earth at this place. According to Bhagwat Purana, Lord Shri Krishna advised his ministers to go to Badrinath with his Charan Paduka to get rid of all the wrong doings.
It is a 3km trek from Badrinath, surrounded by beautiful mountains & flowers during summer.
Mata Murti Temple

It is dedicated to Mata Murti, the mother of 2 sons, Narayan & Nara.
As a Mythological belief, Mata Murti prayed to Lord Vishnu to take his next Avatar from her womb, Lord Vishnu agreed to her prayer and came out of her womb as twins, Narayan & Nara, to kill a demon.
Last but not the least, Joshimath comes in the best 6 places to visit in Badrinath when exploring Badrinath. Joshimath is the town & municipal board in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, located at 42km from Badrinath.
Located at the altitude of 6,150 feet in the snowy Himalayan ranges above the mountains of Dhauliganga & Alaknanda.
It is known as the best place for Himalayan expeditions, trekking trails, camping & pilgrimage centre. Also, known for the trekking from Joshimath to Valley of flowers National park & Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara.
Auli is the most popular destination from joshimath preferred & accessed by tourists. It offers winter sports, skiing, trekking & other activities.
Ropeway to Auli is most popular amongst tourists & one of the longest ropeways in Asia.
